ARCH 101

 In this design, I tried to make and order in order to achieve hierarchy at the end. In the middle there are orderly growing cylinders. The big one in the middle is dominant. Also all of the vertical craft paper cylinders are dominant despite the other vertical newspaper cylinders. There is an order there too. That is how I tried to achieve hierarchy.

 This is the one that I made in the class. I tried to make the down parts and the square dominant by using more tape. Unfortunately, even I don't see any contrast there.   This is the one that I made as homework. I tried to contrast the two triangles, one is white and one is by using the background black. The white triangle is dominant. There are four tapes on the right and the top sides because I calculated it, to make the triangle I had to use that much tape.                                                                                                                                                   ...

 Given: Any number of rectangular shapes(square included), triangles, parallelograms, and circles In this design I tried to make groups out of one triangle, one rectangle, one parallelogram, and one circle. I repeated them several times. I changed the groups' colors so that there could be variation. Then, I tried to combine them with other elements to make good relationships between the elements.

Given: 5 rectangles, 11 triangles, 7 parallelograms In this design, at first i connected the parallelograms by their edges and make it seem like there is a line there. Then, I placed the 4 rectangles which are connected to the parallelograms and I placed triangles between these rectangles so I repeated the background element three times. After these, I placed the other elements with using the background.

 In these designs, I choose the elements from my abstract mapping assignment. After these two, I realized what I was doing wrong which is the elements -in the first one- and the groups -in the second one-  are floating. They have no relationship with the background. These were my first 2D assignments.

                                 The first picture is the photo that i took for this assignment. The second one is the abstract part. I tried to make abstraction with drawing lines in different thicknesses and different lengths by the tonal values of the original picture.

    Repetition and Variation:                                 This is the KKM(Kültür ve Kongre Merkezi) building. If we have a look at its windows, we can clearly see repetition and variation. It has variation because of the changing sizes of the windows. Moreover, these windows are repeating themselves so it has repetition too.     Dominance:            This is the MM(Merkez Mühendislik) building. It has dominance because its height is too big compared to the other buildings in the campus and we can almost see this building from everywhere in the campus.     Contrast:  This is the statue at the entrance of the Faculty of Architecture.
